Update: LIRR Grade Crossing Project

The Long Island Rail Road has completed the grade crossing on Rockaway Turnpike and will begin working on the final project on Lawrence Avenue.

Starting on Tuesday, October 17, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Lawrence Avenue Grade Crossing in the Village of Lawrence will be repaved and closed to road traffic. During those hours vehicles will use Rockaway Turnpike for alternate access.

Please allow some extra time during your morning commute and proceed slowly and carefully around work crews for everyone’s safety.

While the work is in progress, the LIRR and its contractor will provide the necessary flagmen and crossing protection. MTA Police will also be on hand as well to assist with local traffic control along with the LIRR Contractor.
