SHRED-IT

To Safely Dispose of Personal Documents and Electronics

Incidents of identity theft are rising rapidly.  As you are probably aware, identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America today.  A major, contributing factor – one that is easily controlled – is how we discard of documents containing personal and financial information.  “Dumpster diving,” or rifling through trashcans for personal information, is a common tactic used by ID thieves.

You can help keep your identity a little bit safer by visiting Sanitary District #1, which is located at 2 Bay Blvd, Lawrence, NY 11559 on Sunday, October 25th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. All residents are invited to dispose of confidential information in a controlled, secure environment. The District will have a high-capacity Shredder Truck onsite to permanently dispose of any private, business and personal information.

What should you shred?

The easy answer – anything that has a signature, account number, Social Security number, medical or legal information.  In short, destroy all sensitive information including junk mail with pre-approved credit card offers.

Recycle of Electronics and E-Waste Disposal

District #1 has partnered with GreenChip to properly recycle any of your electronics that are lying around collecting dust, as well as shredding of physical hard drives. Data wiping, crushing or punching the drive can still leave data intact. Having a hard drive shredded is the only foolproof way to guaranty that all data is destroyed and cannot end up in the wrong hands.
