Cedarhurst Substation Being Updated

Published on September 19, 2016

PSEG recently announced that the electrical substation on Pearsall Avenue between Rockaway Turnpike and Avery Place will be undergoing a major upgrade.   The work includes making the substation more resistant to storm damage and increasing its output so that it is compatible with the 4 other substations that deliver power to Cedarhurst.   This will provide a more stable and reliable electric service to businesses and residents in the area.

In addition to the work in the substation, utility poles will be replaced or installed along the LIRR right-of-way, near the substation to support the build out.  Along with the utility poles, underground distribution circuits will be installed throughout a number of our streets which will help support the area’s electric service requirements. These streets include:

Pearsall Avenue
Washington Avenue between Pearsall Avenue and Summit Avenue
Summit Avenue between Washington Avenue and Cedarhurst Avenue
Cedarhurst Avenue between Summit Avenue and Park Avenue
Park Avenue between Cedarhurst Avenue and Linwood Avenue
Linwood Avenue between Park Avenue and Chestnut Street
Chestnut Street between Linwood Avenue and McGlynn Place
Rockaway Turnpike between Pearsall Avenue and Central Avenue

Construction is expected to begin in September and will continue subject to weather and planning interruptions through June 2017.  During this time PSEG does not anticipate any power outages related to this project.
